OCMH launched a pilot Behavioral Health Community Health Worker (BH-CHW) apprenticeship in early 2025.
Developed in collaboration with CUNY, Hostos Community College, the Healthcare Career Advancement Program, and nonprofit health and human service organizations, this is the first nationally recognized apprenticeship of its kind. The apprenticeship engages apprentices in continuing education courses with CUNY Hostos and in work-based learning with the CUNY CARES (Comprehensive Access to Resources for Essential Services) initiative and additional non-profit employer partners across NYC's five boroughs.
