About OCMH

Advancing mental health + well-being for all New Yorkers

Equity-Driven. Community-Rooted. Innovation-Led.

Who We Are

The Mayor’s Office of Community Mental Health (OCMH) is New York City’s first mayoral office solely dedicated to mental health. Codified into the City Charter in December 2021 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, OCMH was created to ensure lasting leadership and accountability in addressing the mental health needs of all New Yorkers. We serve as an innovation hub: a think-and-do tank that drives forward new approaches to mental health care by bridging policy, practice, and community wisdom.

Vision

OCMH envisions a New York City where mental health is a shared priority, and every New Yorker has access to care that is equitable, culturally responsive, affirming of lived experience, and rooted in community—so that all can live healthy and content lives. The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene released reports on the state of mental health and data on social media and mental health which can be found here

Mission

To improve mental health outcomes for all New Yorkers and strengthen access to the mental health supports people need to live healthy and fulfilling lives.

Community Mental Health

Community Mental Health is a comprehensive and inclusive approach to mental well-being that expands the footprint of care beyond clinical settings and providers. It embeds support in the everyday environments where people live, learn, work, and connect—and recognizes that mental health exists along a continuum, from thriving and resilience to coping, struggling, and crisis.
